Rosie Kat is a theatre and opera director originally from Newcastle Upon Tyne. Her work primarily explores power imbalance in interpersonal and political drama, expressed through bold and highly physical performance.

She trained at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, graduating with Distinction in MA Theatre and Opera Directing, after studying BA Drama and English Literature at the University of Birmingham.

Rosie specialises in directing Youth and Community Engagement productions. Highlights include The Monster in the Maze (Music in the Round/Sheffield Music Hub/Crucible Theatre), Pied Piper of Hamelin (Northern Opera Group), Carmen (Opera on Location), and The Journey (Tete-a-Tete / Citizens of the World Refugee Choir). Rosie was director of Leeds Youth Opera from 2020-2022, where she directed Jonathan Dove's The Enchanted Pig and the world premiere of Murphy and Attridge's ARC23.

 

Rosie currently works as a director with Streetwise Opera in Nottingham and she is also an RBO Create and Sing Director Artist, leading CPDs for school teachers throughout the country for Royal Ballet and Opera.

Rosie also enjoys working as assistant and associate director at

companies including Opera North, Welsh National Opera,

Scottish OperaLeeds PlayhouseOpera Holland Park,

Longborough Festival, Grange Festival, 

and Royal Ballet and Opera.
