Engagement, learning, and participation



Young People
Rosie was the Director of Leeds Youth Opera from 2020-2022.
She ran Saturday rehearsals with young people aged 8-25, using scaffolded learning to build and improve performance skills week-to-week, culminating in two fully-staged productions per year.

In 2024 Rosie collaborated with Sheffield Music Hub and Music in the Round to direct The Monster in the Maze, a largescale youth and community opera by Jonathan Dove. Rosie rehearsed weekly with the Children's Chorus, Youth Chorus, and Adutls Chorus, comprising over 150 singers, as well as an orchestra drawn from Sheffield Music Hub.

In 2025 Rosie has led workshops for the Opera North Young Performers Studio, will direct The Secret of the Black Spider with the Youth Company on the mainstage at Opera North, and will direct a schools opera in Rotherham with the Royal Ballet and Opera, involving over 1500 local children over two performances.​

Adults
At the Tete a Tete festival 2022 Rosie directed The Journey, a new opera by Jeremy Gill based on The Refugee Tales with the Citizens of the World Refugee Choir,

Rosie has led workshops with Streetwise Opera in Nottingham, has worked with the adult community chorus at Longborough Opera, and collaborated with the Mental Health Charity Soundcastle for her production of Lucia di Lammermoor with Barefoot Opera.

Community Opera Projects
In Spring 2024 Rosie directed Northern Opera Group's annual community opera project - The Pied Piper of Hamelin - comprising a chorus of adults and children along with professional soloists.

In Autumn 2024 Rosie collaborated with Music in the Round and Sheffield Music Hub to direct Jonathan Dove's The Monster in the Maze, comprising three seperate community choruses - adults, teenagers, and children, as well as professional opera singers and an orchestra of combined young people and professional chamber musicians.

In 2025 Rosie will work with community choruses at Opera on Location, Longborough Opera and Barefoot Opera.
Higher Education
Rosie has significant experience teaching and assessing stagecraft skills at conservatoire level. She directed scenes projects at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in 2021 and 2022. She was required to grade the MA Opera Studies students on their process and performance, and wrote a new mark scheme for the collge's continuous assessment of students in opera rehearsals.

Rosie also directed a staged lieder project with the undergraduate vocal students at Leeds Conservatoire in 2024.
