Rosie Kat is a theatre and opera director originally from Newcastle Upon Tyne. Her work primarily explores power imbalance in interpersonal and political drama, expressed through bold and highly physical performance.
She trained at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, graduating with Distinction in MA Theatre and Opera Directing, after studying BA Drama and English Literature at the University of Birmingham.
Rosie specialises in directing Youth and Community Engagement productions. Highlights include The Monster in the Maze (Music in the Round/Sheffield Music Hub/Crucible Theatre), Pied Piper of Hamelin (Northern Opera Group), and The Journey (Citizens of the World Refugee Choir/Tete a Tete). Rosie has directed projects with undergraduate and postgraduate students at RWCMD and Leeds Conservatoire. She was director of Leeds Youth Opera from 2020-2022 and currently teaches acting at Leeds Junior Conservatoire.
Rosie is the Artistic Director of Y Opera which she founded in 2018; highlights include Mascagni's Zanetto, Donizetti’s Rita, devised live art opera He do the police in different voices, and online Gilbert and Sullivan adaptation The Mikado Is Watching You.
Rosie has worked as assistant and associate director
at companies including Opera North, Welsh National Opera,
Leeds Playhouse, Opera Holland Park, Grange Festival,
and the Royal Opera House.
